# Install: Codex

> Install the Unblocked plugin or connect Codex to Unblocked MCP.

## Install the plugin in the desktop app

Before you start, make sure you can sign in to Codex with your ChatGPT account and sign in to Unblocked.

    Open **Plugins** in the desktop app, search for **Unblocked**, and open its details.

  <Step title="Install Unblocked">
    Select **Install plugin** or the **plus button** to install Unblocked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your Unblocked account">
    When prompted, sign in to Unblocked and authorize the connection. Codex may ask you to connect during installation or the first time you use the plugin.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start a new task">
    Start a new task in Codex so it can use the plugin. Ask it to use Unblocked to answer a question about your team or codebase.

## Quick install (macOS and Linux)

Run the following command to install Unblocked MCP:

```bash theme={null}
curl -fsSL https://getunblocked.com/install-mcp.sh | bash
```

The script downloads the Unblocked CLI and sets up your supported agents.

  The install script supports macOS and Linux. On Windows, follow the [install guide for your app](/unblocked-mcp/mcp-overview#install-for-a-specific-app).

## Manual install (macOS, Windows, Linux)

You can connect Codex to remote Unblocked MCP with the following command:

```bash theme={null}
codex mcp add unblocked --url https://getunblocked.com/api/mcpsse
```

After adding the server, log in to Unblocked via OAuth:

```bash theme={null}
codex mcp login unblocked
```

Codex will launch a browser to authenticate with Unblocked.

Alternatively, you can add the server manually by editing the config file:

* **macOS / Linux:** `~/.codex/config.toml`
* **Windows:** `%USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml`

```toml theme={null}
[mcp_servers.unblocked]
url = "https://getunblocked.com/api/mcpsse"
```
